I came to law by way of philosophy, years spent asking what we owe one another and who gets left out when power draws the map. My politics are openly progressive, rooted in solidarity, equality, and stewardship of the planet; my practice is rigorously practical: clients deserve clarity, candour, and results. Fulcrum Law sits at that intersection. We named the firm for a simple truth: law is a lever. Placed with care, it moves more than a single case. Lawyers with a Cause is how we make that belief visible. Every matter we take on funds specific, verified impact through partners like B1G1 and civil society organizations here in British Columbia—and each year we publish what it made possible. The measure of our success is not only a judgment won or a deal closed, but what those outcomes enable: cleaner water and air, fairer access to justice, technology that serves people, communities that are safer and more resilient. We are a business, yes, but we are also citizens. So we commit our time, our revenue, and our voice to the issues that define this decade—and invite our clients to pull with us. How it works

When you retain us, your legal matter is linked to a specific social-impact initiative within one of our core pillars. You may choose your preferred pillar during onboarding, or we can allocate your contribution where the impact need is greatest.

Fulcrum Law funds these contributions directly—at no cost to you—through B1G1 and trusted local partners. We track measurable outcomes for each initiative and share updates with you, so you can see the impact created through your engagement with us.

All contributions come from our firm revenue, never from trust accounts and never dependent on legal results.

B1G1: the story we chose to join

Founded in 2007 by Masami Sato, B1G1 began with a simple idea: let giving live inside the work itself. Each routine step—a form sent, a contract signed, an invoice issued—sets a small, traceable outcome in motion.

They call it, “Every business. Every action. Every day, making a world of difference.” Today, that call carries across a global network of businesses using the same mechanism—small, verified actions gathering into hundreds of millions of recorded impacts, supporting 400+ vetted projects across eight fields: Education, Environment, Food, Health, Shelter, Income Generation, Human Rights, and Life Enhancement.

We came because once-a-year gifts weren’t enough. We wanted impact to move with our days. So now, when the ordinary happens, something tender follows: a day of schooling, a meal shared, a tree planted; a clinic visit, shelter raised, tools or training offered; rights upheld, clean water drawn, mobility granted.

The value here isn’t branding. It’s practice. A habit. Work that leaves a measurable good behind. It isn’t just B1G1’s story; it’s a shared one. It’s also ours and when you step into it, the story becomes yours, too. We’re one voice in that amazing chorus.
